Qualifications:

  1. Must hold a Masters degree or higher with South Carolina Certification in Guidance and School Counseling
  2. Minimum of 3 years experience as Guidance Counselor or Guidance Director preferred.
  3. Teaching experience preferred.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Items specific to the Director of Guidance of Broome High School - includes but not limited to the following:

 

1. Supervises all aspects of daily counseling responsibilities of seven school counselors and
    supervision of many of the job responsibilities of the Guidance Secretary, Registrar, and
    Records 
2. Works closely with the Career Specialist to provide the necessary career exploration
    opportunities for students
3. Works closely with all staff and faculty to assist students in meeting state standards to
    become College and Career Ready 
4. Assists in making sure all 504 accommodations plan are updated annually, communicated
    to all appropriate faculty, and followed
5. Supervises and authorizes student schedule changes by guidance staff with the approval
    of the Principal in accordance with the SC Uniform Grading Policy
6. Maintains close working relationship with the staff of various dual credit and College programs

    in Spartanburg
7. Maintains school membership in NACAC and the College Board
8. Insures the completion of all IGPs by the counseling staff prior to state deadlines while
   making sure that appointments can be made very easily by all parents through various
   means of communication
9. Assigns other specific additional duties and responsibilities to counselors for various
    programs and opportunities for students - e.g. Junior Leadership Spartanburg, Boys and
    Girls State, etc.
10. Demonstrates strong proficiency with PowerSchool and PowerScheduler
11. Supervises registration of new/transfer students making sure all guidelines are met
12. Works closely with the Principal in sending home via group phone messages and other
     means of communication important information regarding various guidance events and
     opportunities
13. Assists with the coordination of the school response (additional counselors available,etc.) to

      school tragedies
14. Alerts counselors to various professional development opportunities
15. Assists Guidance Secretary in setting up school visits by college representatives
16. Assist with schoolwide state mandated testing
17. Supervises all aspects of PSAT administration and WIDA testing, delegating
     responsibilities appropriately to the guidance staff
18. Sets up and communicates with faculty and staff the logistics of PSAT testing along with
      the assignment of Room Supervisors and Proctors
19. Conducts required training of PSAT Supervisors
20. Serves as AP Coordinator, taking care of all required College Board duties and
      responsibities associated with this position- setting up of all AP course registrations, AP
      Course Audit, maintenance of AP Course Ledger, AP Exam ordering, AP Exam
      administration logistical setup, training of exam supervisors, administering exams, return

      of materials, etc.
21. Sets up the calendar for special guidance events and organizes/supervises all aspects of
      the Fall College Fair, College Application Day, Scholarship Workshop, and Financial Aid
      Workshop
22. Supervises distribution of unofficial transcripts to seniors soon after the opening of school
23. Supervises the transmittal of requested Mid Year Grade reports to colleges in January
24. Identifies qualified candidates for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship and manages/submits all

      Palmetto Fellows Scholarship applications
25. Updates and publishes all BHS Guidance program literature/handouts including periodic
      reminders to each grade
26. Submits all guidance information for daily announcements and submits information
      published in the weekly newsletter which is electronically sent to all parents and students
27. Makes certain that all scholarship opportunities and information are properly advertised in

      the weekly newsletter
28. Coordinates the guidance portion of which includes the awarding of the BHS “In House”

      Scholarships
29. Serves as the Chairman of the BHS Scholarship Committee, administers the application
      for all “in House” scholarships, and chairs the meeting of this committee to select the
      recipients of these scholarships
30. Meets with and advises community members who wish to establish new scholarships
31. Serves as a fund manager for these scholarships, working closely with the Spartanburg
      County Foundation to make sure that all guidelines and recommendations are followed
      and that all legal paperwork is completed properly for the awarding of these funds
32. Verifies the naming of the Valedictorian and Salutatorian by recomputing the final GPA

      by hand
33. Manages senior scholarship award letters and computes four year projected scholarship
      total earned by each senior class
34. Annually updates and publishes school profile (sent with all transcripts) __ compiles
     various statistics for this such as the percent of seniors going on to a 2 or 4 year college
35. Monitors FAFSA completion by seniors in conjunction with SAM (Spartanburg Academic
     Movement)
36. Completes and submits College Freshmen Report as required by SDE annually
37. Speaks at various student and parent orientations and assists in representing the school
     at school and community functions/events/outreach programs
38. Manages/coordinates course registration for the new school year in PowerSchool for
      rising 9th-12th graders while also working with the middle schools to insure a smooth
      transition to high school.
39. Works with the Principal and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to assist with
      aspects of the Master Schedule
40. Assists with managing class sizes in PowerSchool as it affects guidance decisions
41. Answers variety of questions from faculty, staff, students, parents, guardians, and
     members of the community

 

Salary:  District Teacher Salary Schedule

 

Terms of Employment:  240 days
